Our culture of adolescence worships the present moment. There is no history, no future. Just a lifestyle, of right now. Nowhere is this clearer than with nuclear energy. The wastes need to be stored for up to a million years. 1/5 https://t.co/USRVvccBS9 https://t.co/V72IFKKDHM

Even lower levels of waste need storing for thousands or tens of thousands of years. What right do we have to bequeath this responsibility to so many future generations? None at all. We can’t even keep our own infrastructure running, inside a single generational lifespan. 2/5

There is no time in our governance, except in our institutions, which by design act across generations. We’re removing those, they get in the way. Project 2025, anyone? I’m not a ‘Greenie’. I’ve worked in nuclear engineering. It’s an insane system of energy production. 3/5

For anybody at all, once you add time back into the equation. Hundreds of thousands of years of responsibility that we have no right to foist upon future humanity. 4/5

Fossil fuels are reflective of this Peter Pan culture we live in. They’re so fabulously energy dense because we’ve burned through several million years of sunlight, in a few centuries. Our adolescent lifestyle cultures are oblivious to both past and future. /end
