The picture says it all. How retirement went from being a time of winding down after a lifetime of hard work, to some sort of perpetual orgy of recreation. It will be scaled back when the boomers are done with it, as every other entitlement they enjoyed while working has. /1 https://t.co/cNKQNfxh7I
And don’t be conned, much of the funding for these retirement lifestyles is public money, not boomer money. Astronomical tax concessions. Which again, as night follows day, will be removed as soon as they’re done with them. Just as free education and cheap housing was. /2
Friends of mine retired 10 years ago at 55, on the old gold-plated public super schemes which gave them their final working income for life, at retirement. They didn’t contribute a single cent to those schemes. That’s what the ‘Future Fund’ is, public money. /3
Put aside to pay for this outrageous largesse. Again, quickly removed once the next generation came along. Many if not most people now have more money in retirement than they did when they were working. That’s a cultural abomination. /4
And we wonder why we have a ‘cost of living’ crisis, when the families doing the hard yards of raising the next generation have no money at all, and can’t even afford a roof over their heads. Intergenerational injustice is very real. Remember this is the Woodstock generation. /5
The down with the establishment, back to simple living hippies who went on to become far and away the richest generation in history, trashing institutions and monetising the wreckage. The destruction of any sense of a circle of life. Just a perpetual lifestyle present. /end
