You're also often ahead in cash flow terms, even if you have to use finance. The rate you pay (and many offer interest-free) will still often mean that the money you're saving every week is greater than any repayment. So you're amazingly worse off if you don't install them! /2

Compare with the national strategy of replacing centralised generation with solar and wind farms, and then building new transmission lines to bring the generated power to buildings. That's a long lead time to bring household prices down. /3

We'll need new centralised generation and transmission, but we may need a lot less than we're currently projecting, if we start at the other end. After all a big part of the endgame here is to bring prices down for households and businesses. You can do that in 1-2 days. /end
