Ever noticed that 'the economy' is completely party-agnostic, in political terms? That no matter who is elected and their belief systems, they will all end up following the dictates of a handful of entirely arbitrary statistical indicators? That's the con. /1

Many if not most assume that's because those indicators represent a sort of bedrock of all social life. Rubbish. The whole of economics itself is not even that, it's like how physics often assumes it's the most fundamental science. Also rubbish. 'The economy' is not a thing. /2

'Economic' transactions are a thing, trade etc. But they don't take place in 'an economy', they take place in a society. The economy is the con that substitutes for society, so that only economic transactions get priority. A deliberate invention to bypass all politics. /3

So that those who benefit most from economic transactions also get to dominate all politics. No matter that those transactions are themselves just social transactions too. The conservative inventors of the economy can now do politics, while looking like they're not. /4

Like they're just following the 'laws' of economics, objective reality. It doesn't even occur to people to ask why we're not following any other laws, like the ones governing climate change and pandemics. They're as if not more objective than any econo-babble. /5

Until we ditch the idea that the economy is an actual thing, and not just a society with some economic transactions included, we will keep losing. At everything. That's why it was invented. /end
