Pathetic populist politicians won’t touch Covid for fear of losing votes. The cookers spooked them, or their own ideology hated every second of public health, with Covid. That ideology hates anything public, it ‘distorts the market’, even when the market says kill kill kill. /1

It’s almost beyond belief that their slavish obedience to idiot ideas about the State comes above even preventing mass death, sickness and disability. That’s what a fundamentalist does, and that’s what they are, fundamentalists. As I say a lot, track it back, socially. /2

Despite all their rhetoric about individual initiative, about ‘having a go’, in reality they’re heirs to fortunes that they do almost nothing to earn, and many of them could barely boil an egg. They’re also vastly outnumbered by every other social grouping. /3

And yet they keep winning elections, because they game them, they make toxic ideas popular. It’s just marketing, something the empires they inherit have a lot of experience in. With Covid, after the emergency measures many countries took, which they call ‘lockdowns’? /4

(Great example of their rhetorical skill, that a basic process of quarantine as old as history was re-framed as locking people up.) After the dreaded lockdowns, we were told it was time to let it rip. Missing the obvious next step, rarely mentioned. /5

After emergency public health measures, we should have reverted to other public health measures, designed for daily ongoing life. And nearly all of these are WHS measures, in business. That’s why they didn’t go there, it’s their key constituency. /6

Any audit of WHS measures taken for Covid in business right now, and even public institutions like schools and the public service, would fill multiple Royal Commissions. Either nothing happening at all, or the odd empty hand sanitiser bottle, not refilled since 2021. /7

Any politician with half a brain, and I’m afraid you might look long and hard for one now, should realise that the way forward with Covid isn’t government-funded lockdowns and actions. It’s to make business take its basic WHS responsibility. And to PAY for it. /8

And all public organisations too, make them follow the WHS law they’re already supposed to be following. And audit the fuck out of it, and put people in jail, until they do it. Yet another ‘socialising the losses’ that we let happen, with nary a whimper. /end
