I encourage everybody to focus not on the content of public debates, but on what’s going on socially. Societies don’t run on information, they run on social status. Cars are a test case. The anti-EV debates. The data shows what’s really going on. /1 (https://t.co/sL9fzOgNGA.) https://t.co/c02wNX3biG

You can see here the great resistance to EVs is concentrated heavily and unsurprisingly in 4WD and ute-driving social groups. Cars help define who you are, socially. They’re not tools, they’re status markers. Now…who’s driving those 4WDs and utes? /2 https://t.co/BCsJYzoUPC

Older people, mostly. The change to electric vehicles is a threat to their sense of identity, heavily wound up in the cars they drive. None of this has the slightest bit to do with the merits of any particular technology. Societies don’t run on information. /3 https://t.co/CsiElsf4Oo

You can tell this social grouping that their determined passion is costing them bucketloads of money (because it is). It’s unlikely to shift them, unless they’re financially desperate. Status dominates human life. /end https://t.co/YQJyIvvgf0
