The disgusting emptiness of much Western culture now is all there in the idea of ‘revenge travel’. This is why we refused to keep fighting a pandemic. Our entitled travel in the world was interrupted. So we took ‘revenge’ on that interruption. /1 https://t.co/Nh1ObhGIfw https://t.co/4jBOmtbP2c

You can’t really be for the control of Covid and also for the hypermobility of travel culture. That’s a square peg in a round hole. We blame politicians and minimisers for destroying public health. They definitely led that destruction. All change is led. /2

But across the entire spectrum of political belief, people rushed the gates of the airports as soon as they were allowed again. The entire culture is culpable here. It’s hypocrisy to want one and not the other, infinite freedom of movement for people, but not pathogens. /3

We’re the pathogen hosts. It’s our infinite freedom of movement that makes the pathogens spread. At the same time our own politicians win election after election restricting the movement of *other* people. This is bog standard imperialism. /4

The infinite freedom of movement of travel culture is just ours. The rest of the world has to stay put, to serve us in the theme parks we turn their countries into, for our ‘experiencing’ enjoyment. Revenge travel. What a culture. Fills me with disgust. /end
