The unspoken truth is that we CAN’T do it. The magnitude of the revolution needed is unrivalled in human history. No variant of business as usual will get us even close. James Lovelock used to say it. He thought it was already much too late. /1 https://t.co/ZTDMSFTZ8D https://t.co/5VyasS7ERe

When we wanted to defeat Hitler, we stopped everything. We mobilised entire populations, in every nation. Massive disruption and dislocation. For years. That task was orders of magnitude smaller than fixing climate change. We don’t just need a tweak here or there. /2

All our jobs are not going to get us there, no matter how many Net Zero plans we build into them. Emissions is only one piece of the puzzle to be assembled. We’re still living every day as if this is just one more ‘issue’ to deal with. One more news story. /3

To go with all the other news stories. But this is the potential end of civilisation as we know it. Everything else is pointless. Why are we still rocking up to bullshit jobs every day, going through the motions? Societies should have been on war footings years ago. /4

The entire society mobilised to fight this threat, whatever it takes. Like we completely upended and transformed lives during the world wars. Everything went to the ‘war effort’. Climate change is a MUCH bigger challenge. Relatively, we’re doing absolutely nothing. /end
