About a decade ago I got whooping cough. While recuperating, I decided to read some of the history, to see if there were any forgotten options for symptomatic relief. I found Ormerod’s 1937 paper. On the use of vitamin C. A fraught topic. /1 https://t.co/DTTqHBMj6N

Fraught because it’s like ivermectin, another miracle cure drug often trotted out by the ‘natural’ healing types. And then of course Linus Pauling’s long campaign in favour of it. But you know what. Fuck me if it didn’t work, for me. /2

Immediate symptomatic relief. Big reductions in coughing and wheezing. It was a lifeline at that time, pertussis of course being hell for sufferers. I’ve since found it to be reliably useful to ease wheezing for cold air and exercise induced mild asthma too. /3

I’m absolutely aware this may be just something that works for some people, some of the time. And that there is actual research on this topic, with mixed results. But curious for any insight or experiences from others? /end
