The US is one of the most violent countries on Earth. Because it rejects basic collective regulation of its society. Without that, violence is the default.
But there’s also more to see here. Why so many mass and other prominent shootings? /1

Societies are explained socially. Not economically, or using individual psychology. I think the US has so many mass shootings because people there are using violence, the currency of US life, to try to re-create a public.
Mass shootings create public attention. /2
When a nation does everything it can to pulverise collective things into individual freedoms, those collective things return through a deadly, perverse back door.
So often these shooters are deranged souls who feel alone, with no collective who recognises their pain. /3
In a nation that so often doesn’t recognise anything public or collective, mass shootings generate a collective attention.
They create a perverse public, of sorts. It’s a completely lunatic way to do that. But when violence is the currency of life, it’s what people use. /4
The US and any other nations that embrace the ludicrous opposition of individual and collective life ignore the most basic, practical fact.
That these aren’t two things. It’s no use others trying to defend collective life over individual life. That just feeds the fallacy. /5
You only HAVE individual freedom, by it being collectively enabled. Otherwise you’re doing everything yourself. You’re certainly not using a device to post here, unless you have a semiconductor factory in your backyard.
But that’s not to make the collective primary either. /6
Because the collective *is* just individuals. Acting in collective ways. There is no group mind or agency. There’s no binary or duality here.
If I chip in at my local sporting club because I want to play, it’s the same me playing, and working for the club outside games. /7
I just wear different hats, depending on what’s task I’m doing at the time. Playing, or running the club. I help run the club because it enables me to play, individually.
There aren’t two entities here. It’s the same people, acting in different ways. /8
All of our Left v Right nonsense politics ignores this basic fact. The Left champions collective things, the Right individual.
They’re not even two things, to back. They’re one thing.
