This event should be a wake-up call to what social media-driven culture is doing to us. Who is Trump ‘fighting’? You can see how his entire political success is to turn everything into a fight. This is the team sports I Tweet about. Where it takes us. /1 https://t.co/oeZC4o9JHo

To take ordinary people and their lives and weaponise them into fights. Fight, fight, fight. In teams. The ‘Far Left’ as just one enemy. /2 https://t.co/f4aUSHAHlN

The politics of climate change, renewable energy, EVs and Covid is *exactly* the same business model. Start fights. Because fights create and energise the teams. Mostly on social media now, because that’s what it’s so good at. /3

Using humans’ most basic social behaviour, against them. Imitative rivalry, transformed into a money-making, power-gaining machine. It allows bad people to bypass all of societies’ checks and balances, set up over generations. To cast those as ‘elites’. /4

Replaced by naked populism, the economy of likes on social media. Convince people they’re in a constant state of war, so that their team goes hard at it day and night. To fight for status, against other teams. This Tweet went up almost straight away after the event. /5 https://t.co/F6nSfxVO7g

The medium is the message. Yes before social media cable networks and debased newspapers pioneered fight-politics. But it was social media that gave us the team structure that sent it thermonuclear. Now everybody can roll up the sleeves and fight for the team, all day. /6

The absolutely fanatical response humans have to literal team sports should be telling us this is the deepest passion in our culture. Social media has transformed all of life, into team sports. It will destroy us. /7 https://t.co/7XlSBIGT9w

Societies are not really more ‘polarised’ or ‘divided’. That’s just the social media business model, transforming them into monetisable battling teams. Until we address the medium instead of the message, populism will end as it always ends. With fascism, and deaths. /end
