Another idiot hashtag, yallmasking. Who cares? I’m masking, posting a photo of myself doing it will do diddly squat to change anything. I say idiot, because it derives from the idiot idea that social change comes by ‘mobilising’ people. No change happens that way. 1/4

Change only happens when the existing status quo is so threatened that it’s forced to change. And that status quo isn’t capitalism or neoliberalism or corporations or Murdoch or the CCP, or any of our other favourite baddies. 2/4

It’s the SOCIAL hierarchy that is currently dominant. And made dominant by all of the people IN the culture. It’s not imposed on them. Everybody clamours for status. These hashtags do as well. Everybody can’t resist the team sports battle, for this status. 3/4

Coming here every day to pitch in for their team. Then confused because nothing actually changes, in reality. Of course it doesn’t. This social mechanism isn’t about changing anything. It’s about creating and maintaining social status. /end
