Keir Starmer is a decent, intelligent guy. He'll be much better for the UK. But like Albanese he reveals the fundamental weakness of modern progressive politics. Good people are far too timid and nice. The trajectory to power for Starmer and Albanese is almost identical. /1 https://t.co/5nTKgkOAYs

Both made their respective parties more 'electable', over a period of a decade or more. What that means is they took all of the strategic framings and barbs their opposing conservatives used to paint them into a corner, and tried to address them as if they're actually real. /2

Now they're proud to be as good 'economic managers' as the conservatives. But conservatives never do any economic management. They ride the upwaves of economic cycles, claiming it's all their doing. Then lose when the debt bubbles that fuel them explode. /3

Leaving a hapless Labo(u)r Party to come to power to try to repair the mess, while being blamed for the explosion. Making their parties electable just means trying to prove all the mean and nasty things conservatives say about them aren't true. /4

But by doing that, they already lose. They accept the underlying framings, which are all BS. 'See, we ARE good economic managers!', they beam. Good little boys and girls. Again, conservatives never do ANY economic management. Labo(u)r are fighting shadows. /5

Rather than devise strategies to completely screw over the conservatives, as the conservatives do to them, they spend all their time trying to respond to the conservatives' fictions, about them. And they advocate for a 'nicer' politics. Spare me. /6

Like the problem with politics is people arguing. People arguing IS politics. People LOVE to argue. That's the team sports I write about all the time. What has Peter Dutton done to get himself in contention for the next election? He's picked fights. /7

Started arguments, on everything. As Abbott did before him, and which Johnson and Trump are masters at too. They know nothing fires up the team better than a fight. To campaign on a kinder, more gentle politics is utterly clueless. /8

Good people lack backbone, and strategic nous. They lack the will to fight, and fight hard. To strategise. They think good ideas will implement themselves, simply through the power of logic. They need to teach in a feral high school for a while. /end
