Are we seeing 'increased immunity from vaccinations and infections'? Do coronaviruses have that sort of cumulative immunity? The specific metric here is obviously severe disease, not infection. /1 https://t.co/BTby9ujRut
It's not clear if it's meaningful to use the concept of hybrid immunity for what's happening. Nobody is getting vaccinated now, here's UK data. Unless original vaccinations are still providing substantial immunity, but data throughout the pandemic has suggested they don't. /2 https://t.co/IaQJIvDnZj
The UK data suggests this is still the case. From: https://t.co/3MMtNSkCcJ /3 https://t.co/MiomUtqQGL
These are the crucial questions I think, if we really are going to try to infect our way out of a pandemic. We'll need a measure of infections to do that, because a pandemic is STILL defined by number of infections, not hospitalisations. /4
For the very good reason that past a certain threshold of infections, immunity gets evaded, from either infection or vaccination, or both together. Unless the pathogen rarely mutates, which seems absolutely not to be the case of SARS2. /end https://t.co/bg2gEM3UQk
