Christmas is actually a festival of materialism. The Christmas story not only has gifts, it’s the story of the material embodiment of the deity, in human form. I’ve never understood the anger directed at ‘materialism’. /1 https://t.co/9HDwCgYpv0
Societies that truly focused on material wellbeing would bring joy and peace to the world. instead, and particularly now through social media, they focus on idealisms. Abstract philosophies and beliefs that lead to nothing but destruction, division and war. /2
Just think about what a reset of all of this towards material wellbeing would produce. The importance of providing for the material needs of humans, as opposed to team sports debates over abstract beliefs. A focus on materiality also requires nurture of the ‘natural’ world. /3
The natural world from which our material existence derives. It’s a fundamental shift of filter for how you view human history and culture. All of the sterile, hateful idealisms that consume us. Look at Gaza right now, being pulverised into dust. /4
Nothing is safe when our idealisms go to war. A focus on material wellbeing wouldn’t allow the constant destruction of our material legacies, built up over centuries. And as I’ve tweeted about at other times, there’s an even bigger reason to refocus on materialism. /5
The creation of ‘material’ life also binds humans together. Only building and maintaining things creates social stability. Ideas and debates and idealisms never do. At this time of the ultimate celebration of incarnation, it’s time to rediscover materialism. /end https://t.co/eOxjNVsLA6
