These are the 4 stages the Doherty Institute were asked to model when we opened up in late-2021. Two important things to note here I think (we need to revisit that stage of the pandemic, as the promised Royal Commission that will probably never happen would). /1 https://t.co/SEYpAvZHTy
1. Removal of border restrictions are obviously long past. Our COVID strategy since that point, of let everybody get infected over and over ('hybrid immunity') - where's the modelling for that?
2. Note how tight the scope of advice requested is. /2
Not advice on the best way to end the pandemic. Advice on implications for ending it in the way National Cabinet wanted to end it. Not 'following the science', but asking the science to follow the politicians. It was around that time we heard all the BS about 'leaders lead'. /3
So let's hold them to that. What's happened since they dropped the science as a guide for action is entirely their doing. And like everywhere else in the world, hybrid immunity is a train wreck. Killing and maiming widely, crippling economies. /4
Pandemics are defined by number of infections. That was also conveniently, politically, changed to be number of hospitalisations and deaths. And when both of those went into the stratosphere, hybrid immunity appeared as the new 'strategy'. /5
Again I don't think we've seen any of 'the science' behind hybrid immunity that decision was based upon. We've heard the CMO mention it, even give a timeline for when it'll be job done. When do we get to see the modelling? /end
