The ALP spent 10 years in the political wilderness not developing one obvious strategy to push through desperately needed public policy. Instead they waited 10 years for the LNP to fall over. Shorten tried to introduce major reform, but without strategy, and was slammed. /1
It's the job of politicians to think strategically about how to make necessary change. Not to pander to focus groups and what's currently popular. As Steve Jobs used to say, the job is to *make* something popular, not to surf the current wave of fads and fashions. /2
The only strategy the ALP came up with was 'it's time', and 'how bad were that LNP with their trillion dollars of debt'. Neither will allow them to make any significant change to the LNP legacy. 3/3
