In an emergency, we pool resources, we fund our lives collectively. That’s what that blip on the graph is. Incidentally under 35% of GDP is still way lower than the 120% of GDP government spent in WW2. That enormous shift led to decades of booming economies post-war. /2 https://t.co/RWTC0K925b

You can clearly see the shift in savings and loan data for households, during the pandemic. Lockdowns not only let us spend much more time at home - freedom under any sane definition of the term - it also made us richer than we’ve been in decades. /3 https://t.co/AV5Na5ZaLZ

Look at how we paid down the personal debt we’d accumulated to meet the costs of living shunting collective responsibility onto individuals had created. So, lockdowns not only stopped most of us becoming infected with a lethal virus, it also was a boon to us economically. /4 https://t.co/G9U8DzcUI1

It’s so ludicrous as to be almost unbelievable. The data doesn’t lie, the only 3 things that shift societies politically are plagues, wars and unions. This plague was beginning to restore collective access to collective wealth. Our PM assumed multiple ministries and convened…/8

…a national public health chokepoint called National Cabinet to stem that tide as quickly as possible. And here we are today all back at work, all being infected 4 times a year by the same lethal virus. All poorer again, with the RBA targeting that momentary windfall. /end https://t.co/aB6fdEmkS3
