A tiny increase of tax-take relative to GDP would erase these deficits in 1-3 years. And about a third of our overall public debt is printed money and could be just written off. Some quite simple changes would change our society fundamentally, by rejecting lunatic ideologies. /1 https://t.co/NiIUY5c42T

We’re addicted to debt. And that addiction was driven by the ideology of hatred against basic public administration around taxation and spending. Governments use debt to fund basic government services, to avoid taxation, and individuals use it to survive. /2 https://t.co/tCOz3ncA0H

Investment-based, rather than savings-based economies. Cheap money, buying a lifestyle by borrowing from the future. Individuals can’t save because their wages have been suppressed, so they use personal loans to achieve a lifestyle. Private debt to GDP ratios shown. /3 https://t.co/veDMBLfoNc

Notice the drop in 2020 and 2021. “Lockdowns.” Really just a shift from individual funding back to government funding. If government have no money and have to borrow, and individuals don’t either, then who has the money? No surprises here…/4 https://t.co/FhObDOtyID

All of this modern ‘small government/small tax/small regulation’ ideology is driven by the same people. The top echelon of earners and wealth-holders. They hate tax because when you hog most a country’s money, you pay most of its tax too. They hate…/5 https://t.co/GICyB7dBzi

…regulation because that also slows their accumulation of wealth. It’s these parasites on our community who would (and should) pay most of the extra few percentage points of tax the country needs to be able to fund basic public services. With an ageing population, it’s…/6

…almost beyond belief that this top echelon’s public policy priority is to cut their own taxes even further, leaving government even more impoverished to address social crises. If the ALP keeps these cuts, they should disband as a party. /7 https://t.co/kzaPnBMVXS

The ridiculous thing about all of this is, Australia has plenty of wealth. But that top echelon want it all for themselves, and have moved mountains to try to achieve that over the past 30 years. A simple shift to overall tax-take would go a long way to help counter that. /8

If the ALP can’t sell that need to take back wealth that is common and use it to fund our society, again it should just give up now. The conservatives and their fantasy society-substitute, the ‘Economy’, are destroying societies to enrich tiny numbers of people. /9

The US and UK are even worse. Thousands of Brits are told to huddle in public libraries (those not closed by conservative austerity programs) in the coming winter, if they can’t afford to heat their own homes. It’s time economic pirates and their ideology were sent packing. /end
