#auspol Paul Toole on SKY saying they can’t delay openings further, because people have been given every opportunity to get vaccinated. I hear this nonsense a lot. As with exponential growth, this is political strategy playing on mathematical ignorance. /1

What he doesn’t say (he’s either deliberately misleading, or innumerate) is that by *definition* at both 70% and 80% figures, nearly half the State won’t have even had the opportunity to be vaccinated. No matter how keen they are to be jabbed…/2

…the State would have re-opened anyway, without them. That’s how the target is designed. ‘When 56% and 64% of you are vaccinated, we’re opening’. Is this so hard to understand? More slogans, ask many in the street and they’ll say anybody not vaccinated at 70 or 80%…/3

…has themselves to blame, they should have gone and got a jab. That’s what the political strategists want them to think, and it’s worked. Under the definition of the opening, they were never going to be given the chance for that jab, pre-opening. /end
