#covid19aus #auspol vaccination data has quickly become the proxy metric for pandemic success. Australia is actually tracking the world average. In a true global pandemic strategy, that would be seen as a noble thing. /1 https://t.co/2YmAWxmCRN

The gap, represented by the red arrow, between that world average and the countries at the top, is interpreted as the superior public health work of that top group. It isn't that. It's a supply gap. Created by those same countries, hoarding vaccines. /2

The call for vaccination targets in Oz, to get jabs in arms ASAP so we can get the borders open, is just a global pissing contest. A league table of vaccine hoarders. The entire global pandemic strategy has been driven off course, by the hoarders. /3

Instead of the main strategic aim globally and for each country nationally being 'ending the pandemic', it's become 'who's vaccinating the fastest?'. Pathetic, disgusting actually. Vaccine nationalism, as some call it. /4

We're taking our eye off the only goal, of ending the pandemic. Watch this space, the Oz feds are desperate to throw the country open, a la UK, once those jabs are in arms. They won't care who's infected at that point. Lock up your children. /5

The slow vaccine rollout in Oz is the greatest protection we have right now, because it forces the retention of other public health measures. Guaranteed, if we'd had quick vaccination, we'd be the UK right now, flinging life open to infection. /end
