#covid19 #auspol viruses spread through social activity. Social activity is governed by political systems and ideas. The seriousness of a pandemic is therefore deeply implicated in the political ideas used to address it. 1/3

The clear message of Covid is the total failure of libertarianism. In reality no country has ever been run with libertarian ideas, it's a fairy tale. The big death numbers in this pandemic? The countries with the most libertarian i.e. anti-government rhetoric and actions. 2/3 https://t.co/8UB9P2p50u

Vaccines and NPIs are seen as the weapons against Covid. But the deeper battle here is political, between ideas about how we're governed. Libertarianism is bankrupt, a philosophy of grown ups not wanting to clean their rooms, while wallowing in the collective comfort of home. 3/3
