I know people have their little chuckles about my Daylight Savings Time crusades. Read the science people, nicely summarised here. We’re doing terrible, sometimes fatal, things to our bodies by fiddling with standard time. As the experts say at the end of this piece, we need standard time, ALL YEAR. Even the Russians decided that a few years ago, after trialling daylight saving all year. It’s bizarre that opponents of DST have always been portrayed as some sort of backwards yokels, when in fact they’ve been following the science. The real yokels here are the people who think you ‘save’ daylight by stealing an hour from the morning, forcing everybody to get up in the dark for most of the year. It makes us all tired and very sick. And it’s also naive, DST was actually invented so that employers woudn’t have to give people shorter working days.
