Heat exhaustion is a horrible death. The blood thickens, kidneys fail, your muscles start to liquefy, the person becomes disoriented and confused, the heart stops. What’s tragic about it is sufferers rarely know this is what’s happening until much too late, as appears to have happened to Michael Mosley. The human body can only survive longer term within a very narrow temperature range. And unlike individuals, who can be cooled and treated if got to in time, the planet has no hospital. No pool it can jump into, to cool down. No IV fluids. This is what so many don’t understand about climate change. We only exist within a very narrow band of temperatures. Outside those, we’re all dead. And there’s no outside way to cool us down, we have to stop generating the heat now, from within. Like Mosley, we’re stumbling towards death, thinking it’s all just ‘lovely warm days’.
