The Mad Monk has escaped again, this time calling for cuts to immigration. One of the things not many know is that the only thing that keeps economies like Australia's running, is immigrants. Immigration actually fuels economic growth, if immigration hadn't occurred in the past decade (and you can study this directly), Australia would have had at least one recession, in 2009 when the GFC hit. There is nothing else producing any growth in the economy, apart from immigrants and government stimulus. Aging countries like Australia, China, and the US would be completely sunk without immigration, because our birth rates are so low we would have most of our population in nursing homes in a very short time.
