We’re not connecting with others not because of some epidemic of ‘loneliness’, but because as a culture we’re not engaged in any collective projects. We’re not building a common world, we’re all ‘living our best (individual) lives’ instead. We’re don’t need to be hanging out with our friends like teenagers well into adulthood, we need to be all working towards building better societies, together. Historically only catastrophes like wars and plagues and natural disasters make that happen. We’ve lived through historically unique times, in the past 70 years, of peace and prosperity. That peace and prosperity came from the collective work we did after WW2, to re-build the destruction of societies. A collective building project. Without that disruption and destruction humans will just play status games, like teenagers in the schoolyard, all day and night.
