The main reason petrol and diesel cars were built to have a relatively high range is so they wouldn’t need to go to the servo very often. There are only 6500 servos for over 10 million vehicles in Australia. If they needed to re-fuel often, you’d completely overwhelm the servos. Servos and their network of tanks and trucks and refineries cost a *fortune* to build and maintain. They don’t pump the fuel from the refinery, tanker trucks have to drive it to each of these 6500 stations every week (after it arrives by ship). None of that is needed for EVs, you can even produce the fuel on your own roof. They use a top-up rather than fill-up model, where you just top them up every night, like you do for your phone. You couldn’t do that with a petrol or diesel unless you went to the servo every day. And that would make the servo network collapse.
