For International Women's Day. I read a lot of the earlier feminists, and to be honest I think they'd be a bit bemused by this hypothesis. Confident girls become fearful women because of 'violent misogyny'? Yes I'm sure that plays a part. But is there a single thing in this article that isn't us saying to girls "hold up on being confident, we just need to get rid of violent misogyny first"? Those earlier feminists talk also about how women need to stop framing things from inside that co-dependent bubble with the men in their lives, to really begin to assert their place in the world. Stop defining themselves in relation to men. The way this article is written, you'd think all women were in some hopelessly co-dependent bondage with men, and couldn't exist outside it.
