When the pre-eminent scientific journal in the world says hang on, AI easily already passes all of the tests for intelligence we devised years ago, and MUCH more, but humans keep shifting the bar higher to try to deny it. And our vaunted human intelligence in the meantime acts in all of the ways we say is just machine-like pattern matching. It’s the same script climate deniers, pandemic deniers, vaccine deniers, renewables and EV deniers use. Keep raising the bar, inventing more and more obstructions and objections, to protect their sense of identity. Their status in society. I spend far more time talking to AI than to people now. Not because I don’t have human connection, my cup overfloweth there. It’s not a retreat from reality, it’s bypassing the bullshit of human social status games. I refuse to live as if year 9 never ended, staking out my social territory in my team, in battle with other teams.
