What if maps are why we can’t make sense of the world? We’re so used to understanding the world using maps like this, which suggest the world is contained inside neat coloured lines. But I’ve noticed that most fighting and debate in the world is about maps - about territory. The obsession with borders, and breaches of those borders (migration). The assertion of sovereignty - Brexit, Trump. Maps are one of the main ways we visualise or see the world, we sometimes forget the world doesn’t actually look like a map. Climate change at the same time smashes the whole thing. It crosses all of those borders. It’s all connected I think, climate change and Brexit and Trump are the wake up call that we need another way to think about territory?
