The ‘think global, act local’ phrase is one of those twee things that is supposed to be profound. But is it actually meaningless? It’s another binary, and I think binaries are only descriptions of points of view. The definition of local is the opposite of global, and vice versa. They define each other, and they define a point of view or perspective, they don’t describe actual existing things. I watch ‘global’ tv shows at home in my ‘local’ house. This iPad came from the US and China, but I’m using it in my local, country NSW. It’s why I think the phrase rarely energised anybody to do anything, as this cartoon captures well. It makes no sense.
