This got wide applause on social media. It was an act of rank stupidity. It’s vigilantism, the sort of thing social media encourages every day. If people had been injured or killed as a result of the DIY traffic control for example, on this high-speed stretch of highway, these ‘champion blokes’ could go to jail. It’s possible they’ve already committed a crime by taking control of the highway. And no it’s not just community spirit. Community spirit is doing Meals on Wheels or picking up litter, not being a vigilante taking over serious, dangerous work. Next we’ll have DIY firefighters and police.
