This was a major reason we ended up with a home battery, even more than the cost savings. It was to have reliable power even in disasters. It’s already saved us multiple times, in only just over 2 years, while streets around us had no power. The Australian grid is fragile, because of the vast distances. A home battery creates a micro-grid if the main grid goes down. If you have solar with no battery, your solar turns off too when the main grid goes down. Right now the battery is also allowing me to run the house entirely on solar, and low-or-zero cost grid energy, because I can charge it whenever I choose. Even ‘when the sun doesn’t shine’, for the mental midgets.
