Similarities between Trump and Henry VIII. Populists like Trump are bringing back arbitrary sovereign power, ignoring due process, nepotism is on the rise etc. Like Henry Trump is also a compulsive womaniser. Enter one of my heroes - Thomas Cromwell. Cromwell was one of the first bureaucrats, and basically set up Tudor England so that everyday life could carry on, while his boss shagged and hunted (the Tudor equivalent of golf). Henry eventually beheaded him, as Trump regularly fires his own bureaucrats. Bureaucrats are today’s true heroes. Try facing up to the outraged mob on the basic logistics of toilet paper supply and you’ll see what I mean.
