The World Cup is another wonderful window into human culture. Most fans pay no attention to the soccer itself. All that matters is that the team wins. That’s the passion, the desire. To be part of a team, beating other teams. To imitate others, gaining membership to Team [insert country]. And then to go into battle against other teams of fans. Imitative rivalry, the root of all human life and thought. Millions do this while watching not one single other game of soccer all year. Now fist-pumping adrenaline and cortisol. You can step outside this, even for one moment, and say to yourself - why does it actually matter who wins a game? It’s a game. Heh, good luck getting that to trend.
