Neil Diamond retired from performing 5 years ago when he developed Parkinson’s Disease. He has such incredible songs, underrated masterpieces of pop. I find this clip of him at a musical opening about him in New York this week sad and poignant, when you see him struggling to overcome the horrible disease to sing one of his greats. Poignant too because one of the most interesting theories about Parkinson’s is that it’s ‘Long Influenza’. The result of flu in earlier life, with Parkinson’s then being the long-term impact of that earlier infection. Right now we’re infecting most of Australia with something much more dangerous than flu. Multiple times a year.
