The Iliad talks about how the use of force usually rebounds on those who begin it, in ways that they never predicted and which often destroys them as well. It’s a glorious irony of Trump and Israel’s offensive in Iran that it may single-handedly destroy fossil fuel-driven societies faster than years of hopeless activism could have dreamed of. It may turn out to be the tipping point towards a rapid move away from the use of fossil fuels.
