The Economist is one of a handful of organisations that maps the health of democracies of the world every few years. All of the organisations that do this work agree that democracy is in seemingly terminal decline, under assault from 'populism'. You have to understand what populism is and what it's doing, and why it's doing it. You can't elect your way out of populism.
