I've lost count of the times I've heard: 1) 'technology is just a tool', and 2) 'machines will take over humanity'. 1 and 2 completely contradict each other. To me technology is really just us, and the most social part of us. Take any technology, and if you think about it, it was invented to meet some social need. Technologies even give us brand new ways to be human and social. Engineers are the world's greatest social innovators, by a country mile.
