3 million people per week worldwide move from the countryside to the city. Countrysides the world over are emptying of people, if not already empty, and drones and other equipment are taking over farming. I see this as another symptom of how we don't occupy space. It's not surprising we turned the countryside into some abstract thing called 'the environment' - many know about it only through books and TV. We don't live in and work the landscape any more, at best we 'sightsee' it or turn it into some loopy New Age object of worship. Climate change to me is actually the symptom of this emptying of the landscape. Most greenhouse gases produced by humans are generated by mega-cities and industrial farming. Meaningful, practical connection to landscape was all that kept us alive for millennia, but fossil fuels allowed us to pretend we were separate from the landscape. Now the world is fighting back.
