Andrew Charlton usually says smart things, in this case he notes that societies are so fractured that there's almost no hope of any party sweeping them all together again, in 'the centre'. Instead different parties give smaller groups a "pure diet of exactly what they want". A bit like families who give up trying to find meals that everybody likes and instead give each person their own meal. As Charlton says, in history this usually precedes the destruction of at least one of the previous major parties and the search for a new one. At the moment that's looking more like the LNP than Labor. http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/we-might-wake-up-and-find-the-peasants-are-revolting-elites-diagnose-our-political-disease-20170627-gwz867.html
