I’m a materials engineer. Most people have never heard of it, but it’s the heart of the modern world. The basic engineering principles in most fields haven’t changed a lot in centuries. What’s changed is new materials. Materials engineers also run blast furnaces and electric arc furnaces, some of the scariest things you can imagine. Like hell on Earth.
