Anybody who wades into complex public issues, especially at times of emergency, armed only with their pig-headed unresearched opinion, is a danger to society. I bet though in the aftermath of this catastrophe, we'll just have more populist bullshit, like "do more hazard reduction burns". Fantastic nuanced bit of research here, I particularly liked this bit about hazard reduction burning: "Experts emphasised that in extreme and catastrophic fire conditions, the surface fuel available for burning makes next to no difference to the level of a fire's intensity." https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-12-20/hazard-reduction-burns-bushfires/11817336
