Got some replacement tyres yesterday on the Kluger, they were down to 2-3mm tread depth. In Australia 1.5mm is the minimum legal tread depth. At 2-3mm they were still easily legal, and even still looked fine, the tyre guys reckoned there was still another 5000km in them. But have a look at the risks. At even 3mm tread depth, your risk of losing all traction on a wet road is almost twice the risk with newer 5-6mm tyres.
