Paul Keating introduced mainstream super to Australia, because he saw it as a way to transform who holds wealth in our society, towards working people. So far it’s working. Super is the greatest financial nest egg we have, and it’s held largely by ordinary people. A first in history. Which is why the LNP hate it with a passion, and let people raid it earlier in the pandemic, a disgraceful act. It’s not ‘our money’ (as they like to say), it’s mostly funds from our employers and the taxpayer (through massive tax concessions), to go towards our retirements. Allowing people to use it to live and to buy goods and homes is a complete bastardisation of the whole idea, designed to destroy it. Brought to you by the moral-free bastards we voted out.
