New Zealand’s new government came to power with a tired old cliche about freeing everybody from dreadful government. They cut the guts out of public spending. Now their economy is a train wreck. There is no such thing as an economy, it’s a political myth. All productivity and economic activity is driven by government. Just as all affordable housing, education, health care, roads etc. is. None of these things will spontaneously appear in a ‘market’. The only markets that exist are also created by governments.
