Insurance is my day job, for Council. Unaffordable insurance is a leading indicator of social collapse, because it means a society isn’t managing risks, leaving it all to insurance. A society that doesn’t manage risks - what sort of society might that be? Which demographic group traditionally takes on high risk activities? Adolescents. It’s kidult culture. People can deny it until they’re blue in the face. We refuse to understand our own culture. When the countercultural revolution exploded in the 1960s, when that massive wave of teenagers took over the world, this was always going to be how it ended.
