There’s beautiful counterpoint in music hidden in some older songs. Take this oldie from Nat King Cole, listen to the second verse from about 1:05 onwards. There’s the main melody he’s singing, and alongside that the saxophones are playing harmony, but with a completely different melody of their own. Melodies and counter-melodies, rather than melody + harmony. https://youtu.be/S2lG1K-QYh0?si=bkZSgaZMGy9kNKhQ
