My workplace has been near-empty for weeks. People so, so sick. With Covid, and secondary infections, often caused by Covid (but nobody tells them that). There’s another big surge in Covid cases in Australia right now, but again nobody will tell you that. It’s a national wink-wink agreement to pretend everything is normal. Except it’s not. I’ve never seen the community this sick, it’s ridiculous. Public health is in free fall. I’m still waiting for people to call enough on the stupidity of it all, but they won’t. They don’t want to stand out from the crowd and break the wink-wink agreement to pretend it’s all over. Instead they’ll run out of sick leave and come to work sick, to accelerate the whole collapse even more.
