I know many are thinking about EVs for their next car. To share my thoughts on the relative merits of the two biggest options right now, Tesla and BYD. Other makers like Kia, Toyota, Subaru and European brands make excellent EVs too, though they’re usually more expensive (for now). BYD. Pros: Cheapest high-quality EVs available, with the most features. Excellent and long warranties. Cons: require annual servicing, which for regional people means a trip to the city mostly for now. Not as efficient an EV as the Teslas i.e. use more electricty per km, though not hugely. Don’t have their own charging network, for long trips, though there are many fast-chargers out there already. TESLA. Pros: the most efficient EVs by quite a margin i.e. use the least electricity. Funky design and best software of any EV. Their own super charging network (with the best chargers). No servicing required, and any that is required, they'll send a technician to your home. Cons: warranty a bit stingy. Personally I find it difficult to choose between them. Living in a regional area the Tesla may just win, because of no need for servicing, and the supercharger network for longer trips. Remember EVs rarely have issues that need servicing anyway, they have next to no moving parts except the motor, and electric motors are extremely reliable and mostly maintenance-free.
